We spent two days at Grootberg lodge. Perched on the edge of the Grootberg Plateau, it has the most spectacular views. The lodge has been built in conjunction with the local # Khoadi //Hoas community. It is 100% owned by the community. A big donation by the European Union, through the Development Progamme of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, funded the building of the lodge. Local staff (and members of the local community) is being trained to run and manage the lodge by Dominic, and his wife Simonetta. The aim is for the lodge to be completely run by the local people within the next ten years.

At night they let the horses out to walk freely on the plateau and make friend with the zebras, oryxes and springboks allowing you to get close on horseback.

Driving pretty fast on a good gravel road early morning (not in a national park just a normal road) when Magnus slams on the brakes because two large giraffe run across the road. Anyone who thinks a moose on the road seem large should have close look at these guys! They stopped on the other side of the road looking down at us rather accusingly.
